Bronhard has run for judge in 4 other counties

Rose Bronhard

Candidate for Wakulla County judge Roseanna Bronhard has run for judge in four other counties.

In 2014, Bronhard ran for St. Lucie County Judge; in 2016, for Holmes County Judge, in 2018, for Franklin County Judge; and in 2020 Broward County Judge.

In an email response to questions from The Sun, Bronhard acknowledged the numerous candidacies, writing: “Holmes County and Franklin County had open seats like now, Judge retiring. I tried and didn’t win. Broward County, I had resided in from 1990-91 and 1993-2002, and still had parents residing there. Mom was very ill, died this past May 2022, this was my main decision. When I ran in St. Lucie County, I was a resident then.”

Bronhard has yet to attend any candidate functions – there have been a few for county judge candidates, including a forum at the public library a couple of weeks ago held by The Sun. She did email The Sun after that forum and said she had not received the invitation or the reminder, that those messages had gone to her Spam file. She later emailed and asked that, if the newspaper intended to hold any additional forums, that she be allowed to appear by Zoom because of concerns about Covid.

She also emailed Herb Donaldson, director of Palaver Tree Theater, about being allowed to appear by Zoom at that group’s forum held last week. Donaldson acknowledged her concerns, but said it wasn’t technically possible.

Given her concerns about Covid, The Sun asked Bronhard, if she wins the election, does she plan to conduct court in-person? She replied: “I do plan on conducting court in-person at the courthouse. As you know, Judges sit on a bench a good distance from where a jury is seated, from where the plaintiffs and defendant’s tables are. This environment does not invite direct physical contact within six feet as a political candidate forum does. As you mentioned, I have run in other counties (sic) and I had the experience where the public can come into direct contact with multiple people. Asking for a zoom option in a candidate forum is not that unusual given the circumstances.”

Bronhard added that she intends to attend the Aug. 6 candidate meet-and-greet at the community center “based on this negative perception despite my concerns.”
