Sheriff’s Report
Activity reported for the week of Aug. 12 to 18:
FRIDAY, AUG. 12
• Deputy William Bennett responded to Walmart about a retail theft. Upon arrival contact was made with Asset Protection staff. Asset Protection advised that a suspect scanned two items then took them to customer service for a refund. After receiving a refund of $7.36 the suspect returned to the register to finish scanning and pay for items. After review of the video staff identified three items the suspect did not scan totaling $43.72. A suspect has been identified in this case and it has been sent to detectives for further investigation.
SATURDAY, AUG. 13
• Deputy William Bennett responded to the Ochlocknee State Park about a vehicle burglary. Contact was made with Jeffrey and Dara Taylor. Jeffrey stated someone broke the window on his F-150 while it was parked at the boat ramp. He said he parked the truck around 11 a.m., and returned to the truck at 2:30 p.m. A wallet, credit cards, and two prescription bottles were taken. Jeffrey’s credit card was used later in the day at a Walgreens. This case has been sent to detectives for further investigation. FWC responded to the scene to assist.
• Multiple deputies responded to a home on Danley Grade Road about a burglary. The victim believed someone was still inside the residence. Upon arrival the backdoor was found open and the residence was cleared by deputies. A loaded sawed off 12-gauge shotgun was located during the clearing of the residence. Multiple items were taken from the house to include a TV and game cameras. The well pump had also been damaged. WCSO detectives and CSI also responded to the scene to assist. A possible suspect has been identified in this case.
• Deputies responded to Sky Box after it was reported multiple people fighting inside and outside the establishment. Upon the arrival of deputies, the fighting stopped, and a lot of intoxicated people were observed walking around the property. Contact was made with Kathryn and Lee Wiggins who were extremely intoxicated stating Kathryn Wiggins had been punched in the face. Attempts were made to gather statements, but useable ones were few and far between. Lt. Vickie Mitchell viewed security footage showing Wiggins had attacked Cory Haas who she claimed had struck her. Haas never hit Wiggins but pushed her to get her away. Contact was made with Haas at his residence, and he signed an affidavit for non-prosecution. Wiggins was issued a Trespass Warning for Skybox at owner’s request.
MONDAY, AUG. 15
• Deputy Andrea Farmer responded to Brown-Donaldson Road, in reference to a physical disturbance. Upon arrival Deputy Farmer made contact with Charles Hoke and Audrey Neinann. Hoke advised Jared Harvey attacked him with a collapsible baton. Harvey is Neinann’s ex-boyfriend. Hoke was able to wrestle Harvey to the floor and take the baton from him. Harvey had fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival. After further investigation Harvey was located at 900 Arran Road. He was placed under arrest for aggravated battery and transported to the Wakulla County Jail.
TUESDAY, AUG. 16
• Caticia Shorter reported a theft of a utility trailer by her former employee. Shorter advised the suspect did not return the trailer as requested. Shorter was able to locate the trailer at the suspect’s residence and took possession of her property, but still wished to pursue charges. This case has been sent to detectives for further investigation. Deputy Carla Skelly investigated.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 17
• A passerby called 911 stating Tropical Traders restaurant was on fire. Wakulla County Fire-Rescue arrived on scene and was able to extinguish the fire. No foul play is suspected. The estimated damage is over $500,000. Deputy Michelle Stripling investigated.
THURSDAY, AUG. 18
• Deputy Michelle Stripling responded to Wakulla Urgent Care in reference to a dog bite. Deputy Stripling made contact with Lester Denmark who stated he was helping someone tend to a dog which belonged to their son. The dog caretaker has family members come feed and water the dog due to their inability to care for the animal. The caretaker had made contact with animal control last week attempting to surrender the dog and was informed they would have to transport the dog to the shelter. On this date Denmark was attempting to get the dog to be transported to the shelter when he was attacked. Denmark was transported to TMH for his injuries. Animal control arrived on scene taking custody of the dog.
• Gregory Almeda reported his Taurus G2 .40-caliber handgun missing from his dresser drawer in his bedroom. The handgun was entered in FCIC/NCIC as lost. Deputy Dustin Matthews investigated.
