I don’t know ‘bout y’all, but my place has finally seen the summer drought quenched. I am not complaining, mind you. This will keep us in good standing, water-wise, for a while. Fingers crossed for pretty weather this coming Christmas weekend. I feel like we’ve earned it, considering the past three weekends!
Interesting story. Roughly two weeks ago, Ed was surprised by a sheriff’s deputy knocking on the front door. Even more surprising was the reason: he wanted to know if we were missing three cows. Apparently, several folks had called to report three cows ambling through downtown Wakulla Station. Mercifully, they were NOT our cows. We don’t have any cows.
Eventually the three amigos were reunited with their rightful owner, and all was well. Except Mr. George Dock had set up the Nativity scene on the front lawn of the Wakulla United Methodist Church, complete with a bale or two of fresh hay. Now, you can guess what happened next. Those ol’ cows found that hay and enjoyed every morsel!
Not to worry folks. The trampled Nativity has been repaired (thank you, George!), and returned to its rightful spot in front of the Church. No hay this time. We have had deer, bears, a few hogs, and now cows grace the Church property, and it just goes to show, you can never predict what you might see in the neighborhood.
Speaking of the Nativity, the Wakulla U.M.C. will celebrate Christmas Eve at its regularly scheduled 10 a.m. service this Sunday. It is a rare occurance to have Christmas Eve or Christmas fall on a Sunday, so this year we will celebrate the birth of our Savior in the morning, without the customary candlelight service in the evening. Please join us for worship and fellowship.
Please keep the family of Bill Thornton in your prayers, as he passed away suddenly last week. He is the father of Sue Thornton Austin and Michael Thornton, husband to Mary Jane Thornton, and grandfather to six grandsons. He and Ms. Thornton celebrated 71 years of wedded bliss this past year, and are dedicated Christians. He was vigorous for all of his 92 years, traveling extensively with family throughout his life.
Thelma Watts covets our prayers, as she continues rehab. Baby Bennie Mott needs our prayers as well, as he undergoes more treatment for his cancer. Remember the grieving, the sad, the sick and those in war-torn countries, simply trying to survive impossible situations. God grant this world peace. We need it now more than ever.
I hope everyone has a blessed Christmas and a very prosperous New Year.
