Barbecue fundraiser returns

Editor, The Sun:

Good morning to all. It’s time again for our annual ribs and butts fundraiser. Thanks to all of you in the past for participating. We are shifting gears a little this year. We are trying to focus more on local charities. We will still do some kind of donation to St Jude’s as well, but we feel we can make a larger impact on smaller local charities vs a nationally recognized charity. If you want to participate, but feel very strongly about your donation going to St Jude, we can take a check made out to them for your order. All other checks will need to be made out to “Community Foundation” or cash will be taken as well. There will be prizes raffled off at pickup location the day of as well.
This event will be centered around Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This organization builds and delivers beds to children in need of a bed and a safe place to sleep. Their mission is “NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!”
They will be building beds in our community later this year.
I look forward to seeing each of you again this year. Please call or text me with any questions you may have. Lets make this another successful event like the years past. Thank you.

What candidates don’t explain

Editor, The Sun:

Reference Wakulla Sun 28 March 2024
It’s the season for the citizens to consider and vote in local elections. Furthermore, we experience candidates tooting their horns on why they are qualified and why we should elect them. And, of course, we read see all the yard signs.
The Wakulla County School Board is no exception. There is one candidate summarizing her excellent parenting and academic credentials and how those experiences make her the ideal candidate.
Hogwash and bull feathers! This candidate states her commitment to fiscal responsibility but fails to mention that a school board members role is to be a representative and advocate for the property taxpayers. Funding for schools starts with us. We, the property taxpayer fund the majority of the schools and for candidates to mention children, teachers, etc is nothing more than platitudes and misguided reasons for wanting to be on the school board.
Why don’t school board candidates express their advocacy for the property taxpayers? If the candidates are all for “fiscal responsibility” what does that mean beyond the ability to spell the words? How are the candidates going to safeguard our resources? Do they promise minimal tax rate increases? The school board received an increase in local sales tax dollars. How is this candidate going to advocate for us and resist another increase on actual property tax outlays?
Scratch this one. Who’s next?
