Historical Society holds its annual dinner

The Wakulla County Historical Society held its Annual Meeting and Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Wakulla Shrine Club. Nearly 70 people were in attendance.
The historical society was founded in October of 1991 and current President Andrea Carter explained the group preserves Wakulla history through the museum and maintains the gift shop, as well as documenting the history of Wakulla families. Carter also noted the most recent project: the creation of Heritage Park on Zion Hill Road in Crawfordville.

A Blessing of the Animals event was held at Christ Church Anglican on Sunday, Oct. 5, with retired Pastor John Spicer leading the event.
A wide variety of cats, dogs and a leopard gecko named Sunny, owned by Sarah Laughton received prayer and blessings from Spicer.

The Wakulla War Eagles took care of business against the Fort Walton Beach Vikings on Friday night, winning 30-22.
And it wasnโ€™t as close as the final score makes it sound: The War Eagles were up 30-7 in the third quarter when Head Coach Scott Klees decided to put the second string and some JV players in. The Vikings scored twice to narrow the margin, but the outcome was never in doubt.

Wakulla County School District has been officially recognized by the Florida Department of Education and the State Board of Education as an Academically High-Performing School District for 2024โ€“25, joining an elite group of only 13 school districts across Florida to achieve this honor.

The family of Wakulla County resident Jared Causseaux is hosting a memorial race in remembrance of his life and legacy. The 2nd Annual Live Like Jared Memorial 5K & Fun Run will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at a relativeโ€™s farm, 161 Centerline Rd., in Crawfordville.
