  • WAKULLA COMMUNITY THEATRE TO HOLD VARIETY SHOW

    Special to The Sun

From 1991 until 2009, Wakulla Community Theatre was very active. The theater performed over 25 plays, musicals and musical revues. WCT was very popular to Wakulla County and surrounding communities. The group is presently working around the clock to bring back this source of live theater to our area. Nancy Commander and Mina Sutton, the current directors, have found that not only the organization of plays, musicals and any performances is a lot of work, but also very expensive.

Royalties – which is the rights an organization pays the owner of the play or musical to use and perform the piece – are very high. For instance, to perform a play, like “Our Town” three times is a cost of $650.00 in royalties. A musical like, “Sound of Music”, is approximately $2500 to perform four times. Then add in costumes, microphones, sets, advertising, etc., and, well, you get the picture!! A lot of volunteer hours are being put into getting WCT back in action!!

To help raise funds and provide a fun Valentines for Wakulla County, Wakulla Community Theater is hosting a fundraiser variety show, February 11, 2023, at the historic Sopchoppy School auditorium, 164 Yellow Jacket Avenue, Sopchoppy, Florida. Singers, dancers, musicians and even a ventriloquist and drama group from this area have teamed up to provide a night of entertainment!!
