Wakulla Station News

The big Valentine’s Day Parade is on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m., and it is always a popular event. The floats are always imaginative and the candy abundant. The next weekend, it will be the Wakulla Christian Coalition’s African American History Celebration weekend, on Friday, Feb. 17th through Sunday, Feb. 19th. The parade will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m., and is always great fun. Both events will be followed by vendor fairs in Azalea Park.
A word of warning to our neighbors throughout North Wakulla County. My friend David Hinson returned home to discover a strange vehicle parked in his driveway, nose pressed against his gate. What should he spot, but a couple of strangers emerging from the back of his property. He called his wife, Joyce, in his home, alerting her to make sure her doors were secured (sure enough, they tried to enter!) and then called the sheriff’s office. The sketchy couple turned out to be previously arrested for B&E , but couldn’t be arrested on this occasion since they stepped off of Hinson property by the time the deputy arrived. Their vehicle WAS impounded.
But the deputy warned my friends that these people are becoming a big problem in Leon, Wakulla and Franklin counties (probably others too). They stroll up to homes, checking for easy items to carry off for quick money to buy drugs (Meth). If someone answers the door, they have a ready tale of woe, and ask for a few dollars to buy gas, fix a tire, etc. Call the sheriff’s office anytime you spot someone prowling your neighborhood or property. Better safe than sorry!
What a blessing to celebrate the remarkable life of Donna Kendrick this past Saturday. My family was fortunate enough to have her teach both Alan and Anna in kindergarten, and I got to volunteer in her classroom weekly during those years. Wakulla has a plethora of extraordinary teachers, and Donna Kendrick was at the head of the class. Rise in glory, Donna, we miss you something awful.
Believe it or not, we are approaching the time of year when parents are thinking about summer options for their school children. The good news is that 4-H will be having six weeks of camp, with all kinds of interesting subjects and activities. Call the Wakulla County Extension Office for all the delicious details!
Please keep Louis Hernandez in your prayers, as well as Pam Adans, Faye Sweeney, Pastor Steve Montgomery, and Hope Smith.
We had a great Sunday celebrating the amazing Norma Woodcock who is preparing to have a new adventure in Orlando. As a former bush pilot in Alaska when she was a young nurse, this will be a piece of cake. But we will sure miss her, and her awesome example of kickin’ butt every day. It was so good to see several former members stop in to wish her well. Go with God, dear Norma.
