Thank you to Phil Hill for the following article and Phil Hill and Linda Olson for the images.Flotilla 12 completed several complementary vessel exams on Saturday, July 27, at the St. Marks Public Boat Ramp. Five members were on hand for the event after preparing for the event over the past few weeks. The time and location were determined, and membership was encouraged to attend. Weather reports were monitored to ensure the correct gear was brought, water to have on hand, and the educational material to hand out to the public. Before the event, those participating a “risk assessment” or GAR model which is a general assessment of risk form to measure the hazards of the mission. After evaluating the temperature and humidity, the group decided that ending the mission by noon would help mitigate issues such as heat injuries. When auxiliarists set up for an event such as this, a lot goes into the pre-planning. All is done in the hopes of promoting safe boating. The Auxiliarists try to pass on nuggets of information that could help save lives in the future.Thank you to Mike, Wade, Linda, Steve, and Phil for volunteering their time for the mission. The time volunteered and information shared makes the public just a little safer. Thanks to Sherrie, we will always remember safe boating is no accident.
