I am sitting here, watching the latest updates for Hurricane Debby, as I write this little column. I’m certain Ed and I aren’t the only folks experiencing deja vu. Barely a year ago, Idalia was being a creeper out in the Gulf, while millions held their breath and said their prayers. PTSD is becoming a boon companion to many of us.
Our friends and neighbors to our north (Woodville, Tallahassee and other points on the map) have barely managed to dry in their homes following the recent spate of tornadoes. No one can face the coming uncertainty with any sense of equanimity or peace of mind.
Now, our first real hurricane threat appears to be following in Idalia’s footsteps, and we all wait to see how bad Debby will get (or not). I hope everyone comes through the storm with as little damage and pain as possible!
Congratulations to all my friends with “Be A Hero To Our Heroes” for a wildly successful Back-to-School event. Held this past Saturday at the Wakulla Community Center, backpacks, school supplies, fresh produce and myriad services were available to all comers. Everything was made possible by the dedication and hard work of volunteers. A
heartfelt thank you is offered to all of the many sponsors, supporters and those who donated what they could, to make these events so amazing!
The Woodville Volunteer Fire Department had its annual picnic potluck this past weekend at the Wakulla Extension Office. They wanted me to express their sincere appreciation, since the Woodville Community Center has been commandeered for the entirety of election season.
It was a great time of fellowship, food and fun.
We at the Wakulla United Methodist Church are celebrating our beloved choir leader and friend, Don Grimes, Sunday, August 11th, at 10 a.m. He left us to be with the Lord two years ago, and has been deeply missed. Please join us for a special service of some of Don’s favorite music.
Woodville UMC is hosting its Second Sunday Sing this coming Sunday at 6 p.m. This month, the featured music will be Bluegrass Gospel, followed by a delicious supper. All are welcome and everything is free to the public.
Please continue to lift Cindy Blackstock and her sister Deborah Giles in your prayers, as well as Becky Perkins and her family, Thelma Watts, the father of Angel Smith, and our region as we assess any damage left in the wake of this most recent storm.
