The Wakulla Chapter of the Tallahassee Board of Realtors held their monthly luncheon last week at the Seineyard at Wildwood and heard from Julie Dennis from Wakulla Economic Development (EDC).
“We have partnered with Wakulla County government and the businesses community to bring growth and jobs so that our kids can work here,” Dennis said. EDC is working with the NG Wade representatives at Opportunity Park in the northeastern part of the county near SunBlest Gardens.
According to handout information at the meeting there are restrictions on certain types of businesses they are trying to attract such as Meat and Poultry processing, feed lots/dairy, power plants, chemical manufacturing, Nuclear or toxic waste storage, just to name a few. Dennis said several times that the EDC is trying to bring companies in that will employ our young people.
EDC follows up on business leads provided by the Department of Economic Opportunity and other groups and if successful, they aid them in every aspect of the process up to opening and having a Ribbon Cutting with the Wakulla Chamber of Commerce.
“We help them navigate through the purchase process and develop the deal structure,” Dennis said.
Dennis said that they are working with a large company right now and the expansion of another business with a potential of 200 to 300 new jobs, but said they are far from the finish line.
A meeting is held twice a month with the board of EDC and she invited the Realtors to become investors of the EDC and attend those meetings.

  • County Commissioner Ralph Thomas made an announcement about the kick off of the new Wakulla Sands Golf Course opening on Aug. 16.
The August meeting was sponsored by Hayward Title Group.
