We call February Black History Month. The most we hear about our history is what Martin Luther King Jr did. People seem to be comfortable reading or listening about what he did.

When I went to school, we did not hear anything about Black History. At my school we had used textbooks, and some of the books we were not allowed to read. My cousin Letitia said the Black History she learned was World War I and II when black men had to fight – they wore guns but mostly were cooks. They served as though they were slaves. When the black servicemen returned home, they weren’t treated with the same respect as other men.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Our thoughts might be different, our history seems different, but one thing’s for sure – we are all God’s people and He told us to love one another.

Skipper Temple Church invites you to Second Sunday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m., for Family and Friends Day. The youth will have their Black History Program on third Sunday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m.

Happy birthday to Bernard Ross, Timothy Beard, Kellen Johnson, Ella Andrews, Patrick Rosier, Dionte Gavin, Furmesia Rosier, Mickey Rosier, Legend Fryson, Legacy Fryson.

Our prayers and concern goes out to all the sick and shut-in, those in hospitals, nursing homes, prison, the homeless – all in need of prayer everywhere. Let us pray for each other daily.
