Petra Shuff, who retired at the first of the year as executive director of the Wakulla Chamber of Commerce, was given a surprise party at Sherlock Springs on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
The theme of the party was travel, as Petra wants to travel during her retirement.
Scott Gaby was Chamber president back in 2007 and hired Petra.
Gaby joked that there didn’t seem to be a lot of egos in the Chamber now, but back in his day there were a lot of big egos.
Current Chamber President Amy Geiger spoke of Petra’s impact on the Chamber during her time.
“Your presence in the Chamber office will be deeply missed,” Geiger said.
Geiger presented Petra with an award made by Terry Hillier of Wakulla Sign Company that featured a brick from the courthouse walk.
County Commissioner Quincee Messersmith remembered when she first met Petra years ago at a PAWS meeting at Bay Leaf Market.
Greg James, Jessica Revell and Sharol Brown presented Petra with a weathervane that resembles the one on top of the old Courthouse.
Mary Wallace noted that she and Petra started the networking luncheons and events. She passed a beer stein around for the crowd to fill with dollars for travel money for Petra and her husband John.
