Eight players on the Wakulla War Eagles football team were named to the first-team of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All Big-Bend Team. And Wakulla quarterback Haden Klees was named the 2S Player of the Year and the overall Player of the Year.

The FACA team was drawn from the 9 teams in the region: besides Wakulla, that includes Lincoln, Florida High, Godby, Gadsden, Taylor, Rickards, Chiles and Leon.

Klees was a statewide leader in passing yards until a collarbone injury two weeks ago. Head Coach Scott Klees, who is Haden’s dad, said this week that the injury was a dislocation of the collarbone, not a break.

The War Eagles have dropped two straight games since Klees was injured, and lost the chance to grab the district title in a game against Suwannee.

If the War Eagles can make a run in the playoffs, Klees could return to play. He was told he needed five weeks to recover from the injury and this is week three.

The War Eagles are ranked No. 5 in 2S and are on the road for the first round of the playoffs, traveling to Pensacola to face the No. 4 ranked Pensacola Christian, who are 9-1.

The winner of that game will face the winner of the Suwannee vs. South Walton game this week.
