A week ago Saturday, during a fairly middling thunderstorm, our house was struck by lightning. Little did we realize anything was wrong until we tried to use our landline. I guess we should have suspected something was up, since we weren’t getting the standard deluge of random scam calls for at least a day.
Then, on Monday, I was preparing to write this column, and voila! The computer revealed itself to also be fried to a crisp. Realizing there was no practical way to compose any kind of article in time for my esteemed editor’s deadline, I notified him of the predicament.
At that point, we (actually Ed) began the hunt for a new set of phones, as well as a new and better computer. WOW. From the old CPU that took up way more desktop space than necessary, to a model about the size of two packs of cards! Seriously tiny, and way more powerful, the new computer is amazing. I think the lightning strike was a blessing in disguise.
Now I am learning how to find all of my files, which were thankfully transferred by Josh at JustaGeek in Crawfordville. I really cannot say enough positive things about this little business. His guidance in choosing a new device, as well as saving ALL our stuff, was completely invaluable. If you have a computer catastrophe, or just need some advice, I highly recommend JustaGeek!
Our small community has recently experienced several tragic accidents that have left us with deeply wounded hearts. Please continue to lift the families and friends of Megan and Andie Mckee, who were killed in a car accident. Also in need of our prayers are all of the folks involved in the terrible accident last week on Crawfordville Highway.
On a lighter note, school has begun, and our kids are full of excitement for the new year. I know it will all become routine in a few weeks, but the promise of fresh beginnings has teachers and students alike jazzed! Please remember to be extra aware while driving, as our byways and highways will be lined with children waiting for buses or walking to school.
This past weekend gave us an all to brief hint of autumn, which was both refreshing and disappointing. It just didn’t last long enough! Somehow, football and cooler weather should stroll hand-in-hand once school starts. It sure would make it a lot easier to work in my gardens if the temperature could drop below 85 degrees.
