Appreciate coalition

A couple of Saturdays ago, the Wakulla County Christian Coalition held an awards brunch to present a scholarship and hand out awards to people and organizations.
There were photos and a brief article about the event in last week’s paper.
Carter Christensen won the scholarship, and he is attending Lively Vo-Tech to study aviation and airframe mechanics. I sat with his family – his mom and dad and brother – and they are very nice people.
The coalition presented Legacy Awards to some of their members who have passed: former County Commissioner George Green, who worked hard on the coalition’s project to rename Lower Bridge Road to Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Road. And to place the MLK memorial marker at the courthouse.
It stirred a lot of controversy – until it happened. And then, like a lot of controversies, it just faded into acceptance.
Other late honorees included Chuck Hickman and Hugh Taylor.
Living honorees included Delores Nelson, Ruth Frances, former County Commissioner Howard Kessler, Bossie Hawkins and Jennie V. Jones.
Sheriff Miller and the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office were honored for their support of the coalition, as were Jerome and Terri Robinson of Lindy’s, as well as Catherine Johnson, The Wakulla News and The Wakulla Sun.
I want to say how much I appreciate the award for The Sun. It means a lot to me to support the activities of the coalition, but it’s nice to be recognized.
Thank you.
