Is it even possible we are starting to experience Autumn? Probably not, but this small reprieve from the heat and humidity of Summer has been truly welcome. My spider lilies (also known as hurricane lilies around these parts) are popping up, even in places I haven’t planted them! I just love them.

If you enjoy working with children ages 5-7, do I have an opportunity for you! 4-H is seeking two adults to help start an entire Cloverbud Club, which entails an hour and a half of your time, once a month. Rachel Pienta can assist you with planning, projects and activities, so give her a call at the extension office, 850-926-8894 for more information.
In the next few months 4-H will be hosting a road cleanup, judging youth exhibits at the North Florida Fair (yes, it’s right around the corner!), and celebrating National 4-H Week and Peanut Butter Challenge, which kicked-off at the BOCC meeting with a proclamation this past Monday. The 2024 Haybale Contest is live, so eyes open for the amazing creativity we have here in Wakulla County. We expect to add two more clubs later in the year, Claymakers Club (art) and Forensic Science Club (crime scene and law).
There is a possibility we’ll have a cooking class at a later date, which is always popular. In January we will celebrate Wakulla 4-H with the Clover Gala at Wakulla Springs Lodge.
So, if you have an interest, skill or hobby you can share, the youth of our county welcome your knowledge and enthusiasm! Come on out, step up and teach a new generation the joys of hands-on participation. There is always room for more fun!

If you enjoy barbershop quartet music, make plans to attend a concert at the Tallahassee Senior Center (the Old Armory) on North Monroe Street. It will be held on Sept. 19th, at 7 p.m. It promises to be an extravaganza of sweet harmony.

I was sad to hear Palaver Theater is ceasing production after this latest performance of “Hour of the Wolf” written by Anthony Lamarr White. If you love live theater, be sure to support this play on September 19th and 20th, or the final matinee show at 2 p.m. on Sunday, the 21st. Tickets are very reasonably priced, and the show promises to be stellar.

If you weren’t able to attend the ukulele performance last Sunday night, you sure missed out. It was brilliant! Next Second Sunday will be an entirely different show, so put it on your calendar. There is always a delicious supper following the performance, so come out for fun, food and fellowship.

Speaking of fun, food, and fellowship, preparations for the Wakulla UMC’s 180th Anniversary Homecoming are in full swing! Put October 6th on your calendar in big red letters, and join us for a Communion service at 10:00 am, followed by a covered-dish dinner. David Gill will be our special guest speaker. Everyone is welcome.

Please keep the family of Jed Oliver in your prayers as they mourn his passing last week. Also in need of prayerful support are Deborah Giles, Becky Perkins, Patty Moxley and her family, Wayne Pharis, and Jesse Mae Gavin.
