In Memoriam: Gregg Stanton
This is a very hard thing to do and that is to say goodbye to an old friend.
I met Gregg about 12 years ago. I first walked into the Wakulla Diving Center and met a bald headed guy by the name of Travis. I mentioned to him I was a diving instructor with SDI/TDI, he informed me that they taught NAUI but he would let the owner know.
About a couple of days after that Gregg called me and asked me to come in to meet with him. We met and at that moment I knew that we would become friends.
At first when I met him I thought he was the “Old Man and the Sea”-character with his thinning hair and cut back beard, all he needed was the yellow fishing hat.
He then convinced me that I would need to do a crossover to NAUI. Gregg was very instrumental and patient as he took me on a three month journey to become a NAUI instructor.
We pushed it hard because he had me scheduled for a class to do for him because he would be out of town that weekend.
From that time on Gregg and I had an adventure with teaching classes. There where too many adventures to talk about in one article but I am sure going to miss him and his sage advice.
It’s been an honor to know him and call him friend.
Safe journeys my friend.
