Local attorney Frances Casey Lowe was the key speaker and sponsor of the Wakulla Chapter of the Tallahassee Board of Realtors’ monthly luncheon held Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Seineyard at Wildwood.
The main topic was about understanding probate when it comes to selling property.
Lowe gave the Realtors pointers about probate when it comes to buying or selling a home or property. She talked about various scenarios and how to proceed in selling property after one dies. For example, is the property homesteaded or non homesteaded? Was the deed recorded after the owner passed or before? Is there a will or no will?
Lani Musgrove of Lowe Title talked about Power of Attorney and the need for death certificates in the process.
Many legal factors determine this process and if you need to open a probate case, laws may change from state to state. In the State of Florida you will need an attorney to open a probate case.
