First Dive Post Fall.
It’s been a couple of months since my bad fall on the dive boat and it has been a painful time of healing but healing OK.
I went to my doctor a week after my fall and I knew what else was going to happen with the check up. Its like when you take your car in for service and they always find something else wrong that you need to get checked out. This was no different but in this case I knew what was going to happen.
For a few years now I have not been taking care of my diabetes and I knew it was going to need to be worked on.
Sure enough my level was high and I new my weight was over as well. The doctor was very nice and I told him I’m getting older and I need to get back on medication and lose weight to help keep it under control. He prescribed new medication as well as a once a week injection that is supposed to help keep my kidneys protected.
Well, it’s been a little over two months and between the oral meds and injection I have managed to lose a little over 50 poundss and reduced my waist from 40 down to a 34 on my pants.
I didn’t realize that the meds really suppressed my appetite therefore I’m not eating as much as I used to in fact if I try to eat more I get nauseated.
So the way I look at it is the Lord got my attention with the fall so I could get in better physical shape so that being so close to 70 years old I will feel better as I age.
The other good news is I went on a couple of dives with several close friends a couple of weeks ago on the same boat I fell on. I was a little nervous at first.
The first dive we were in 110 feet of water at the wreck the Tarpon. When I got to the bottom I had to totally readjust my equipment because of my weight loss. The water temperature was close to 90 degrees, the visibility was about 30-40 feet. I didn’t enjoy it as much because of my equipment issue plus we had 2-3 foot seas which made climbing up the ladder a challenge because of my back issue but I slowly made it up the ladder very carefully with very little pain.
We moved to the next offshore site, the Pyramids. They are concrete structures that are big and about 20 of them spread out to help promote fish habitats. I was able to get my equipment reset up for my new body mass. I almost didn’t go on that dive but my close friend convinced me to go and I’m glad I did.
While we where down at one of the tall structures we saw that a moray eel had made its home there.
There were quite a few other fish including a bunch of lion fish but fortunately one of the other divers pretty much cleaned them out.
It was overall a great dive and a great day. Keep making bubbles.
