Human remains found in the refuge
Human remains were reported found in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge on Thursday, Feb. 9, in the area known as the Cathedral of the Palms, according to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office reported that a citizen called to report finding the remains at about 1:15 p.m. Detectives confirmed that the remains were indeed human and began a death investigation.
Currently detectives are working to confirm the identity of the deceased individual and make notification to next of kin as necessary.
Due to the nature of the investigation, the sheriff’s office said that further details will not be released, unless necessary for the investigation, until the case has been closed.
