  • GOD HELP OUR TREES

    Editor, The Sun:

The landscaping codes are being unenforced by the BOCC and county employees. Wakulla county landscaping code 6-31 and scroll down to tree protection and read what the codes are. It says that every tree 10 inches or bigger will be protected and remain if it is not rotten or in the way of any building. The BOCC are allowing everyone who comes to the county to break the laws and codes by giving them permission to clearcut and remove every tree on the property that is being cleared for houses. Just go down Martin Luther King Road and look what they have allowed  to happen right across the road from the courthouse: they removed every tree on that 12 or 15 acres. There was a live oak in the set back by MLK that wes at least 6 or 7 feet across and 100 feet high and beautiful and in the way of nothing it’s gone now taken down and burned. There is 38 acres across from the family dollar in crawfordville that is being cleared but you can’t see it from the road 319 right behind TMH. The land developer has left a big buffer so it can’t be seen and they are removing every tree on this 38 acres just go down Bream Fountain Road and look to the south. This is why all these outside developers come here to work because they are allowed to break the laws and codes and they can’t do what they’re doing here in their county because if they did what they’re doing here they would be put in jail. This can be fixed on Nov. 5, 2024 with the right vote to remove the three commissioners and put someone in the seats that will put Wakulla County ahead of a dollar bill.                                                                                                                                        God help our trees.
