ALDI MAKES OFFER TO BUY WINN-DIXIE
Staff ReportAldi’s, the German-based grocery company, has made an offer to buy Southeastern Grocers, the Jacksonville-based company that owns Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets.
If regulators approve the deal, it’s expected to close in 2024.
In addition to the Winn-Dixie store in Crawfordville, there are 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets, primarily in the southeast – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Aldi, a discount grocer, has proposed converting some of the stores to its brand – and cutting costs by having limited selection and self-bagging.
Aldi expects to have 2,400 U.S. stores by the end of the year.
