VETERAN CECIL STRICKLAND AWARDED QUILT OF VALOR
SPECIAL TO THE SUN
On Thursday, Aug. 17, a Quilt of Valor was presented to local veteran Cecil Strickland.
Strickland is an U.S. Air Force veteran, a technical sergeant, who served in Vietnam. He is a resident of Panacea.
Strickland was nominated by the Commander of American Legion Post 114 on behalf of the Post.
The presentation was held during the Veterans Meetup, held monthly on the third Thursday at the Wakulla County Public Library’s main meeting room.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003 when Founder Catherine Roberts had a dream - literally. Her son was deployed to Iraq.
A Quilt of Valor has to be quilted, made with hand or machine quilting and of quality materials. They are crafted with specific quality materials that are consistent with the Foundations’ core value of promoting excellence. All QOV’s must be “awarded” not simply passed out - saying, “Thank you for your service, sacrifice and valor in serving our nation.”
More Quilts of Valor information can be found at their website: https://www.QOVF.org
