Wow! How great was this past weekend? The weather was nearly perfect, with a fast shower we needed, and then sunny days.
I enjoyed several hours at the rec park watching grandchildren (mine and everybody else’s!) play baseball and soccer on Saturday. As usual, I forgot sunscreen after so many months of winter spent indoors, but am only a little bit pink. And it is so worth it! Wakulla County’s most happening place is definitely Saturday mornings at the Recreation Park.
March is right around the corner, as in tomorrow. There are so many cool and fun things coming up. Starting with the Battle of Natural Bridge in Woodville all weekend long, you can experience an historical commemoration on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, (March 2nd, 3rd, & 4th) If you have never been, you are missing an amazing reenactment and should go at least once.

This coming Thursday, March 7th, the Coastal Optimist Club has invited special guest speaker Richard “Rick” Myhre, candidate for Wakulla Superintendent of Schools, to join us at noon at Myra Jean’s Restaurant. We look forward to meeting him, and hearing his ideas about educating our children in sometimes challenging times. Please join us if you’re interested in learning more.

4-H Summer Camps will open for registration next week, and they will fill soon. Camps are on a first come, first serve basis, so check out the 4-H registration on the Wakulla County Extension webpage right away if you have a child interested in participating.

There will also be a covered dish dinner at the Wakulla United Methodist Church this coming Sunday, following the 10 a.m. Communion service. Come join us for a great time of worship, fellowship and food.

The following Saturday, March 9th, will be the celebration of our very own Wakulla County with Wakulla Wonderful. Designed to be a showcase for local Wakulla vendors and our county’s history, it is always a fun time.

On Saturday 16th, The J.Lewis Hall Recreation Park in Woodville will host the annual Woodville Founder’s Day Festival from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a wide variety of historical presenters, performers and reenactors representing every epoch of North Florida history. There will also be over 40 (as of today) vendors with wonderful arts, crafts and wares for sale. If you are interested in participating, check out the Woodville Founders Day Festival page on facebook for more information.

St Patrick’s Day is the 17th of March, which is a Sunday. I am planning on braised corned beef and sauteed cabbage with onions. Can’t wait!

We are well into the Lenten season, with Holy Week and Easter approaching quickly. That same weekend the Wakulla Odyssey of the Mind teams will be competing in the state finals for bragging rights, as well as an opportunity to compete at the national level. We are so blessed to be able to field several teams.

The Woodville United Methodist Church is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt again this year, and I will publish more details on this event soon.

Please continue to keep Clem Bunker in your prayers as she continues to recover, as well as Thelma Watts.

Ms. Norma Woodcock is recovering from a fracture, and also needs our prayerful support. The family of Ray Butler, recently passed away, needs our prayers at this difficult time. Cindy Blackstock’s sister, Deborah Giles, is facing serious health issues and standing in the need of prayer

Happy birthday wishes to Pastor Steve Montgomery, Becky Cox and Louis Hernandez.
