This report is for activities May 10-16:

FRIDAY, MAY 10

  • A severe weather event impacted the County. Multiple roads around the county were impassible due to downed trees and debris, as well as several residences sustained damage from the storm. Road Patrol deputies along with detectives, as well as deputies and civilian employees were tied up the entire shift assisting with storm response.

SATURDAY, MAY 11

  • Amber Volona reported returning home and finding her front door had been tampered with and someone had made entry into the residence. Prior to the arrival of deputies, Volona made entry on her own and checked the residence to see if anything was missing. Once deputies arrived, Volona advised nothing was missing nor disturbed in the residence. It is unknown who tampered with the door and made entry into the residence. Digital images of the damaged door were submitted into evidence. This case has been sent to detectives for further investigation. Deputy William Montgomery investigated.
  • Lt. Brent Sanders responded to the front lobby of the Sheriff’s Office in reference to a walk-in complaint. Lt. Sanders made contact with Patricia Williams, who advised she was scammed out of $2,500, over the internet. Williams believed she was purchasing a dog off Facebook. Williams became suspicious when the shipping company demanded more money to ship the dog. This case has been sent to detectives for further investigation.

SUNDAY, MAY 12

  • Deshayla Graham reported being in a verbal dispute over a gas pump. The unknown male began make racial slurs when a third party intervened. The third party, also an unknown male, stated “this is what we did in the old days” reaching inside his vest as if he had a gun. Graham advised she never seen a gun but believed he had one based on his actions. This case has been sent to detectives for further investigation. Deputy Kory Smith investigated.

MONDAY, MAY 13

  • Deputies responded to Shields Marina in reference to a boat on fire. Fire personnel were on scene and had the fire contained. The fire started in the engine compartment and was deemed a total loss. Contact was made with vessel owner who resides in Georgia. Damages were estimated at approximately $9,000.

TUESDAY, MAY 14

  • City of Sopchoppy employees responded to a home to cut off the water for non-payment. Upon arrival Garland Landers exited the house with a broom stick and chased them down the road advising he was going to kill them. Landers was located and placed under arrest and transported to the jail facility. Deputy Zac Monroe investigated.
