Ed Brimner withdraws his candidacy

Wakulla County Property Appraiser Ed Brimner announced in a press release on Friday morning that he was withdrawing his candidacy for re-election.

Brimner said in the press release that it was “personal reasons.” In a brief phone interview with the Sun, he acknowledged an incident with a county human resources employee in which he was “exceedingly rude” in front of his whole staff.

The Wakulla Sun’s final candidate forum for this political season was supposed to be held at the public library on Tuesday evening, but a midafternoon storm caused a tree to fall near the library taking down powerlines and caused the library to close.

Backpack giveaway held

Be A Hero to Our Heroes held it annual backpack giveaways throughout the county – with events in St. Marks, Panacea and Sopchoppy – culminating with last Saturday’s big giveaway in Crawfordville at the Wakulla Community Center. In addition to backpacks full of school supplies, there were all kinds of free things – including clothes and haircuts, even sports physicals. Transportation Department & Bus Routes

The goal of the Transportation Department is to provide safe, efficient student transportation to and from school and school-related activities. 
All buses are equipped with air-conditioning, a two-way radio and monitored with video cameras.
On ALL early release dates, expect your children to arrive home approximately 2 hours early if riding the school bus.

Weekly Roundup: Stoking the pot wars

A 14-day sales tax tax “holiday” on school supplies, clothes and personal computers kicked off Monday, aimed at helping families save money in preparation for the 2024-25 school year.
A tropical wave brewing on Florida’s doorstep prompted Gov. Ron DeSantis to issue a state of emergency on Thursday for 54 counties, most along the Gulf Coast and in northern Florida.
And the week closed out as the fight over an effort to legalize recreational marijuana continued to heat up, with billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin dropping millions of dollars to help DeSantis defeat the plan.
