Can you believe it snowed in Sopchoppy? It might have been sleet… I’m from Sopchoppy, Florida so I don’t know… I know it was cold. A lot of us lost power on some of the coldest nights of the year. I hope everyone stayed warm. I had several limbs fall in my yard. I assume from the heavy ice. My trees are not use to this weather either. I’m ready for warm weather! That gym would make a great shelter for hurricanes and I guess snow days now… so let’s get to it….
SOPCHOPPY FAMILY LISTEN UP!
I went to the city meeting. It appears that the school board is willing to give the historic school property to the city. HOLD UP… not everyone views this property with the same LOVE as US! You see…some see it as a financial burden for the city due to the condition of the buildings. Some may want to sell some of the land to help with expenses. But that could mean subdivisions… Some people are not for protecting this land or all of this land. So listen…. We GOT TO come together with a plan…. Yea community garden sounds great but Probably does not produce money. We need to figure out a solution to save our history! My Rec Park people and youth sports wouldn’t you rent the fields? I see y’all had to go to Leon county last year…. The rec park and community center are over booked… just some ideas! I need my grant writers, historic society people and maybe some lawyer friends… I received a few great ideas and I hope y’all come to the workshop with your ideas. I’m begging yall! SOPCHOPPY we gotta come together! They are going to tear some of it down or sell some if we don’t… I don’t think they will harm the actual historic school or old gym but…. New gym, prek buildings, nature trail and cafeteria could be destroyed! This would be a perfect place for our worm grunting festival and all the others…. The festivals are out growing downtown. Also the water well needs updating. Why not use some of this property for a new well. I mean not my favorite idea BUT better than a subdivision! I have also received a couple great ideas like a daycare and a martial arts facility. It would be a great place for sports events. Sopchoppy help me! I’m one voice! My momma went to high school there, I went to elementary there and my son preK! Some people don’t have the connection to this land like us. This is OUR history! Some of these people just see money and maintenance! I see our history!
