I went to the Sopchoppy City Commission meeting. I listened to Dr. Kenneth Rosier speak about starting a school in the Pre-K building. This would be a private school. They would like to possibly lease the Pre-K building and fence in the playground area. The building doesn’t need much work.
I have been saying that, so I loved hearing this because you know how people tried to act like the building was in bad shape and needed to be torn down. This is proof that the building only needs minor upgrades.
They would also take on utilities, lawn maintenance and janitor services. They apparently have money to invest in upgrades.
This seems to me like a great opportunity for the city. This is a revenue source. This brings education back to Sopchoppy and this saves those buildings.
Dr. Rosier did a great job with his presentation and I think this could be a great opportunity for us to not only save the Pre-K building but also bring revenue to the city to help maintain the other buildings.
This would also make the maintenance cost much less since his organization would handle the Pre-K maintenance and pay a lease. The lease would also bring a revenue source to the city to help pay for any costs associated with the entire school’s maintenance.
They are planning a workshop to discuss the details.
Dr. Rosier is also a pastor and I think this could be a step in the right direction. He even spoke about creating business opportunities for the community also. Helping people get business licenses and work, like the lawn maintenance.
Some acted like it couldn’t be saved. Now they see it can be a revenue source….
The city attorney made a statement that the Red Cross or another organization like them may be interested in utilizing the cafeteria. Not much was said about that but I feel that it is also a great idea and would save another building.
Now who wants to rent and fix up this gym? Man, we are on a roll…Red Cross could use the gym for a hurricane shelter too. It is an awesome building.
If you ever need an amazing venue to host an event the historic gym is already ready to go… It is an amazing building. The architecture is unique and beautiful. It also has a kitchen. It’s a great place to have an event. Hey I know a good DJ too…
I also heard that the Sopchoppy Depot Park is getting a small exercise pod.
The Sopchoppy Feed Store (old hardware store) is now carrying my Yella Fly shirts. Those are popular. They are available on my website too at DJButch.net. But my locals can swing by the feed store and grab some feed and a Yella Fly shirt.
Sopchoppy is looking to put up a BIG WELCOME sign at the lot where Mom’s restaurant use to be… Like a “Welcome to historic Sopchoppy.” I’m excited about this. I heard some good ideas. I hope we get the right art and historic look.
Mr. Fred changed my oil today. He always does amazing work. He is right here in Sopchoppy on the corner. I highly recommend his shop for your vehicle repairs.
We have had a lot of rain lately. I mean quite a bit… This has made the river high. Thrown it off for fishing. Fast current and high water…. They say that is good for catfish though. But probably not so much for the bream and bass. It will get back right though.
Take time to get outside. We live in a beautiful place.
Sometimes a dirt road ride is what you need. A walk on the beach. A swim in the river or maybe a day fishing. It is good for the soul.
We are surrounded by water and I love it.
Sopchoppy is a special place.
