Sopchoppy is rocking as usual!
Holidays are around the corner. Speaking of… Operation Santa donation box is inside Coast and Country Realty in Sopchoppy. The old hardware store is where it’s located.
Saw a few white squirrels in the city lately. I love to see them running around in the city. They are beautiful and add charm to our beautiful city. White squirrels in Sopchoppy, Florida, are a genetic variant of the common Eastern Gray Squirrel. The population originated from a group of white squirrels brought to the area in the 1950s, and they are known to have a dominant genetic trait. Unlike albinism, the condition is called leucism, which reduces pigment but does not result in pink eyes. White squirrels were introduced to a hunting and fishing lodge in Sopchoppy in the 1950s.
The weather is cooling down. Feels good outside. Almost time for oysters and campfires.
Sopchoppy Feed Store is putting on a Hunter’s Night Out event with special guest “Brother Blink” Robin Risher. This is the guy from the Hayden Alabama podcast but I saw him on TikTok. The event is November 15th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Historic Sopchoppy gym. For more information contact the Sopchoppy Feed Store.
I have a video that I made of the Crab Race at the Panacea Blue Crab Festival. I did the sound for the event. Well, I uploaded the video to Instagram and it has over 18 million views. My social media is really growing. I post local events, local activities, local history and other fun stuff. My Facebook is Corey Benedict. Instagram is CountyBoyz and TikTok is DjButch. Sopchoppy recently had the Be The Light festival at the Sopchoppy Depot Park. It looked like a packed event. I saw lots of cars as I was headed home from a long day in St. Marks. I was the DJ for Brewfest. It was a huge event with vendors, food trucks, crafts, art and more. I was very tired though after working that event.
It has been pretty dry around Sopchoppy for a while but we got some rain here lately. We needed it. It’s about to cool down…. I can’t wait for the reds to start running in the river. I’m also excited about the mullet run. I want to video this! The river is super low!
We had many kids In Sopchoppy this Halloween. Lots of trick-or-treaters this year. Some years we have few and some years we have a lot. This year was pretty big. I saw some cool costumes. I was a big gorilla for a little while. But that big suit got hot and itchy fast.. haha.
Well the holidays are around the corner… Thanksgiving is coming and I am very thankful. Start thinking about how much you should be thankful for. We are very blessed. I’m thankful for Sopchoppy!
Christmas is coming. I need to start on my Christmas shopping because I like to be finished early. Speaking of…Christmas in Sopchoppy is December 13th from 1 to 7 p.m. We will have all kinds of vendors and food. They are also going to sing some Christmas carols. Santa Claus is coming…. Yes you heard me right! Santa Claus is coming to town.
