Hello from Sopchoppy! I recently went to Universal Studios in Orlando. I was invited by DJ Dap. He does his radio show live from Universal Studios in Orlando to promote Mardi Gras at Universal Studios.
His show broadcast in North Florida and South Georgia but was done live in Universal Studios park. They treated us great. We stayed at Sapphire Falls Resort. We took a boat to city walk. We ate at the Chocolate Emporium.
When we arrived to do the show they brought us in through the back of the park. It was an amazing experience! I got to see a lot of behind the scenes and I was featured on the radio with DJ Dap. I ate at the Minions restaurant. No waiters. You scan a code on the table, get the app and order online. Food comes right out….
I’m from Sopchoppy so this was wild to me. But it was a neat experience in technology and good food. It was a great time! Special thanks to DJ Dap and Universal Studios for an amazing experience. The food, view, park and everything was unbelievably amazing. You can see some footage on my social media sites…
I’m back in Sopchoppy now. No place like home! It’s about to be festival season! Mudbugs and music, Beer and Oysters, and Worm Gruntin’ is all coming up. I’m excited!
The weather in Sopchoppy has been much better! It warmed up a lot. I was walking recently and ran into some neighbors who purchased a home that has been in my family for many years. I showed them a picture of a family Thanksgiving in 1965 in front of their house with my Grandmother, Grandfather, Mother and many others. My mother was a young lady at the time. The picture was taken in front of the house. I found the picture in a Sopchoppy book in the Wakulla Historical Society museum. My Aunt Mary is probably who submitted the photos. She kept amazing records and history.
She also has stuff featured at the Camp Gordon Johnson Museum. The house belonged to her sister. They gave me a tour of the house and it was really cool to see how they restored it. They kept a lot of the old doors, handles but fixed everything up. It was really cool to see. The house belonged to my Grandmother’s sister. It’s a real Sopchoppy charm!
I love to see our history saved and restored. This is what Sopchoppy is all about.
They spoke how they love the area and the people. It made me feel good to hear how much they loved my hometown. They have not moved permanently but I can tell they can’t wait to. It is a special place. I gave them a copy of the photo. My family has been in Sopchoppy for many generations.
I went to a meeting about the Worm Gruntin’ festival and I’m super excited. They will have two stages this year! One will be the Heritage stage. This will feature our heritage like Tupelo honey, turpentine, Worm Gruntin’ etc. I will be hosting the Worm Gruntin’ contest. The other stage will kick off in the afternoon featuring bands. They are going to have all kinds of food and vendors. I’m excited! The Worm Gruntin’ festival is April 11th.
The Second Harvest Food Drive is every second Friday at the historic Sopchoppy School at 9 a.m. Thank you to Sopchoppy Congregational Holiness Church.
