Wakulla Station News

By VERNA BROCK

Thank you, everyone who has expressed your condolences for the loss of my mother last week. Your kindness has been so appreciated, and deeply felt. It is a true comfort to feel your prayers and love during this time.

I hope each and every reader was able to celebrate Christmas with loved ones, traditions, and joy. Ed and I loved having children and grandkids for a big, fat Christmaspalooza dinner. Mostly, I was acutely aware of the abundant blessings we share.

My family is the opposite of reserved, opening gifts one at a time, taking turns, guessing what each present might be. No, we are raucous, excited, loud, and laughing like maniacs as each grandchild hands out lots of presents to everyone and the big reveal begins. I wouldn’t change a thing!

Many thanks to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Department for putting a whopping big speed detection machine in front of my house. It has been interesting to stand and clock how fast folks are going past my house. It is a 45 mph speed limit (needs to be no more than 35 mph), and almost no one is going less than 50! One dump truck had to slam on his brakes, as he was going well over 65. It’s a neighborhood, people! Slow down, please.

My deepest condolences to the family of Sheryl Grimes. She has gone home to the Lord and Don. Sheryl was one of the warmest, kindest and wittiest people I have had the pleasure of knowing. I miss her, and Don, so much.

The New Year is fast approaching, and I feel both excitement and reflection. January 1st would have been my mother’s 89th birthday, so there is contemplation of all she has meant to her family. For us, New Year’s was never a big deal, Alice was the big deal. But there is also the expectation of what the coming year will hold. May we all be blessed, and have the sense to know it.

The Wakulla U.M.C. will have services as usual, at 10 a.m. on New Year’s day, celebrating Communion. Everyone is welcome to join us.
