January 2025 has been a month of exciting things. First time snow for some, first time snow storm for many. Many people were out of power for days. We were thankful and blessed.
This was a first time for me to see the Inauguration Day history, it was exciting!
We know that inauguration means beginning and comes from ancient practice of augury, which means predicting the future. The day marks the start of a president’s term in office. The first president to be inaugurated on January 20th was Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937 when he took office for the second of his four terms.
Lyndon B. Johnson was the first and only president to take the oath of office on an airplane after president John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963.
George Washington’s second inaugural address was 135 words, by far the shortest in history. The longest inaugural address was more than 8,000 words and given by William Henry Harrison in 1841. It took Harrison 1 hour and 45 minutes to deliver his address, doing so in freezing weather without a coat, hat or gloves. After he shook hands with admirerers for 3 hours he caught a cold which became pneumonia and then a month after the cerimony he died.
Someone asked “Has there been unusual weather on inauguration day?” The worst weather probobly occured during the 1909 inauguration of president Taff.
There were many celebrations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil rights leader 1929-1968. The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convinience but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
In Janusry we have had in our county some unusual weather. It gave us time to think about someone who might need some help. Who did you reach out to?
Our concern shown to our neighbors and friends in our community was highly appreciated.
