The resurrection of Jesus is at the heart of the Christian faith and practice. Christ’s sacrifice was essential for the forgiveness of sins, but the resurrection displayed his power over sin and death.
If Jesus had not risen from the dead, then the good news would have ended on a very sad note. The empty tomb elevates Jesus above all other great human figures of history and completes the Gospel.
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. The other women accompanied her intending to put aromatic spices on Jesus’ body or on his burial cloths he was wrapped in. When Mary saw that the tomb was open, she ran and told Peter and the disciples whom Jesus loved that the tomb was empty.
When it feels as though our world is falling apart, we can feel overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty. The disciples were confused and afraid following Jesus’ crucifixion. If we maintain our faith through difficult times, we will be able to look back and see the hand of God through it all. This is a foundation truth upon which our faith is built and it assures us that the Jesus who arose from the grave is coming back to bring us into his everlasting presence.
This profound promise provided peace and hope for every Christian. Let us be ambassadors for Christ and mouthpieces of God who is calling the last to be ye reconciled to God. Read His Word daily and pray.
