Taylor Thorne is Wakulla’s first student to attend Harvard

Taylor Thorne, A senior at Wakulla High, has committed to attending Harvard University in the fall. This achievement will make her the first person to attend Harvard from Wakulla High, and the second person to attend an Ivy League from Wakulla High.
Throughout high school, Taylor has been involved with a number of clubs and extracurriculars such as volleyball, environmental club, and she was elected president of the National Honor Society (NHS) at Wakulla High.
While president of NHS, Taylor helped to organize the color run and zombie run, which were fundraisers that helped to raise money for the Angel Tree Fund and for more picnic benches to be put outside the cafeteria for students to use. The Angel Tree Fund, or Angel Closet, is a program set up to help students in need get certain necessities, and is run mostly by the guidance office at Wakulla High.
As a member of the Varsity Indoor Volleyball team at Wakulla High, she was made one of three co-captains her senior year, and helped lead the team to a district championship. During her many seasons playing travel beach volleyball Taylor has won two bids to the junior national tournament. She was also named the one of two Student Athletes of the Year for Wakulla High.
Aside from structured Extracurriculars, she has also participated in some of the environmental cleanups that have taken place in Wakulla and Tallahassee.
Though she was accepted to both Harvard and Columbia, her top two colleges of choice, she decided to commit to attending Harvard. “I decided on attending Harvard because it has the best resources, opportunities, and faculty, especially since I’m planning on attending medical school” Taylor says, “And the proximity to family in New York was really convenient. I think I’ll have access to the best education possible.”
While at Harvard, she plans on pursuing a degree, or “concentration” as Harvard calls them, in neuroscience.
