Wakulla County native and Tallahassee Police Officer Michael โ€œCodyโ€ Terranova was killed Friday in a boating accident on the Wakulla River.
According to reports from the Wakulla County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Terrranova, 41, was off-duty and boating in the river when he struck a โ€œfixed objectโ€ and was thrown from the boat.

Local man killed in Bahamas

Cody Castillo was looking forward to flying back to his Crawfordville home last week after working in the Bahamas. He and and wife Makayla were looking forward to welcoming their first child into the world in August.
Castillo never made it back home, and was fatally shot while abroad, according to reports. A GoFundMe was started to support his family and notice was sent to local media outlets which included a link to Daily Mail news story about Castillo being shot by a Bahamian policeman during a bar fight.

Crawfordville man injured in crash

An SUV that rolled on U.S. Highway 319 on March 24. The driver was airlifted to TMH with serious injuries.

A 34-year-old Crawfordville man was injured when he rolled his SUV while traveling on U.S. Highway 319 in Franklin County south of Sopchopppy, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
He reportedly suffered serious injuries and was taken by Air Ambulance to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, FHP reported.

Join us on Thursday, Feb. 19, as we celebrate that milestone at our office from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
In conjunction with the Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce and its After Hours Networking events, the newspaper will host the event with lots of food and drink, and socializing and fun.
The Sun office is located at 12 Arran Road in Crawfordville โ€“ on the courthouse square. Itโ€™s the building with the awnings on the northside of the courthouse.

A busy weekend on tap: Black History, Mardi Gras and Mudbugs

Itโ€™s another of those weekends in Wakulla where you canโ€™t complain that nothingโ€™s happening.

  • African American History Festival kicks off on Friday night with the Arthur Andrews Memorial Scholarship Gala at the community center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and will not be available at the door.
  • On Saturday, the African American History Festival kicks off with a parade at 10 a.m. followed by entertainment and vendors in Hudson Park.
  • Mardi Gras, a fundraiser for Friends of the Wakulla County Public Library, will be held at the community center from 6 to 9 p.m. The event features dinner, live jazz and a cash bar. Tickets are $60.
  • Mudbugs & Music, a crawfish cookoff to benefit Keep Wakulla County Beautiful and Big Bend Maritime Center, will be held at Woolley Park beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $20.
    And on Sunday:
  • African-American Read-In Chain will be held at Palaver Tree Theater, 59 Shadeville Road, beginning at 2 p.m.
