Weekly Roundup: Turning the page after primaries

TALLAHASSEE – Last week’s primary-election results were a mixed bag for Gov. Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis’ record in backing school board candidates was below .500. But he had success with legislative endorsements, particularly in a Northeast Florida Senate race where Rep. Tom Leek, R-Ormond Beach, easily defeated two opponents, including one endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Back to school

Monday, Aug. 12, started another school year, and students at Shadeville Elementary School were back in class. Superintendent of Schools Bobby Pearce said of the first day: “It was a good day. Good start.” He noted it appeared the district had unofficially increased enrollment by about 90 students. It was the first student increase since 2019. (Photo special to The Sun)

BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC

Instead of the usual Back to School breakfast for teachers and lunch for non-instructinal personnel, a Back to School picnic was held for all employees at 3Y Ranch on Friday. It was hot. It rained. And there were door prizes. Plus hot dogs and burgers. (Photos by William Snowden)
