Denim and Diamonds Gala, Wakulla Christian School’s first ever Parent Teacher Organization fundraising event was held on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Wakulla Community Center. The event was held in effort to raise funds to expand the school’s campus.
The event’s guest speaker was Donny Bennett Jr. who delivered his influential message of “Burdens, Beacons and Hope.”
“After a lot of prayer, Bennett was chosen amongst multiple candidates to bring the message because he is a Christian, invested in children and sewn into the community.”, said Brittany Gray, PTO member and event hostess. Bennett is also the community’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leader, Battle 14 and fundraising Battle Balls sports events.
Bennett in his speech said, “Wakulla Christian School is at a pivotal moment where it has a burden, (the school’s need to expand), but with beacons (referencing the PTO, sponsors and guests of the event and students) they are beacons, beacons to show light for the school’s mission.”
Bennett utilized a light to point in the direction of Jesus and a sword to help illustrate and drive his message home.
“At the end, there is always hope, without hope there is nothing.”
Deborah Fell, principal of Wakulla Christian School said, “We appreciate everyone ce came out tonight to help with Wakulla Christian School and its bright future.”
Vice president of the PTO Ne’Shoni Love-Beane said, “I love that the event is successful, it was a lot of work and with it being the first event, we learned a lot of lessons. I am glad we built a great foundation for future generations and with the success of this event, we can pour it back into our school.”
The glittery gala was catered by Carrabba’s, and a large variety of gift baskets were silently auctioned off.
