An inmate at Wakulla Correctional Institution, already serving a 15-year prison sentence for robbery in Miami-Dade County, accepted a plea deal on Thursday, April 4, to serve 15 years for the murder of another inmate at WCI back in June 2021.
Joseph Simmons, 31, entered a plea of no contest to second-degree murder, a crime punishable by life in prison, and was sentenced to 15 years concurrent to the Miami-Dade sentence.
According to the information filed in the case, Simmons stabbed to death another inmate, Devin Johnson, at WCI.
Simmons also pleaded no contest to a charge of tampering with evidence for hiding the homemade knife. He accepted a five-year sentence for that crime.
