In the fall and early winter of this year you may see an airplane flying low and slow over Wakulla County. Don’t worry, the airplane won’t be having problems. It will be taking aerial photos to be posted on the Wakulla County Property Appraiser’s website.
The aerial photos currently posted on our website were taken in the fall of 2021 and were added to our site in 2022. The quality of photos continues to improve. These new photos will be posted and available for you to view in early 2025.
Florida statues require every county have aerial photos taken every three years, an expensive mandate. However, our legislators, including state Sen. Corey Simon and state Rep. Jason Shoaf, have provided funds for this requirement for Wakulla County resulting in no cost to Wakulla citizens.

Property Appraiser personnel use aerial photos for myriad uses. Our Ag specialist uses these photos to identify wetlands, crop land, pastures, planted pines and many other agricultural uses.
Our field evaluators use the photos to look for new structures that are not easily seen.
The appraiser uses photos to identify neighborhood factors that could impact the value of improvements.
The building department and planning and zoning also use the site following a hurricane or other disaster to help determine damages.
We constantly find new ways to use aerial photos.
Aerial photography has numerous applications outside Wakulla County and is used by many professionals including mappers, surveyors, engineers, and scientists to analyze everything from population growth to coastal erosion caused by a recent storm.
The most common users are Realtors and real estate appraisers as well as law enforcement and county planning staff. This makes our site especially useful because we have aerial maps readily available back to 2007 providing an up-to-date look at growth and land use changes over time.
When viewing our aerial maps, please note the map lines displayed are not legal boundaries and cannot be used as, or for legal documents. For exact and legal boundaries, please refer to legally documented plats or surveys certified by a licensed surveyor.
