The Wakulla County School Board unanimously approved a new contract for teachers at their meeting on Monday, Oct. 21, which includes a starting salary for new teachers of $47,500.
Other teachers will receive about a 4% increase, said Superintendent-elect Rick Myhre.
Non-instructional personnel will receive a 6% pay increase, and administrative staff will get a 4%,
For secondary school teachers of ESE and math, a $5,000 stipend. That’s something that primary ESE teachers already receive, as do CTE and AP teachers.
Myrhe said the stipend for secondary math teachers is an effort to recruit those hard-to-find teachers.
Myhre also noted that a third insurance option was implemented this year, in addition to single and family, there’s a married couple that is likely to save some employees some money.
The meeting was also Melisa Taylor’s last as a school board member, after serving 12 years.
“It’s been a great 24 years,” Taylor said of her time as a teacher and school board member. She praised district staff for their work keeping her informed.
New school board member Eddie Hand noted he had not always agreed with Taylor on issues, but praised her for her heart being in the right place.
“No matter what the question was, you handled it with grace,” he said.
