Sheriff’s Report

This report is for activity April 24 to May 6. There were 1,372 total calls for service during the week; 18 arrests; 61 traffic stops.

FRIday, APRIL 24

  • Deputy Lexi Kreitlow responded to Otter Lake Road in reference to a burglary complaint. Contact was made with the reporting party, who advised a subject known to him entered his residence while he was at work and removed his 6×10 inch speaker. He advised the speaker is valued at $50. There were no witnesses to the incident and no surveillance video available at this time.

SATURday, APRIL 25

  • Deputy Kory Smith conducted a traffic stop near Ivan Church Road and Crawfordville Highway. During the stop, Deputy Todd Kent, who was assisting, was given consent to search. During the search, a small amount of marijana was located and seized for destruction. The driver was given a verbal warning for not wearing a seatbelt. The seized marijuana was submitted for destruction.
  • Deputy Jackson Kittrell conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle for tag attached not assigned. While attempting to gain the driver’s information, he provided a false name to Deputy Kittrell. After some time, the driver came forth with his real name. During the stop, it was discovered that he did not possess a valid license or a motorcycle endorsement. He was also deemed a habitual traffic offender and had numerous Driving While License Suspended or Revoked (DWLSR) convictions. Dispatch also advised he had outstanding warrant from Leon County. Due to all the information gathered, he was placed under arrest and transported to the county jail without further incident.
  • Deputy Todd Kent responded to Walmart for a report of a shoplifting incident that occurred several days prior. Asset Protection was attempting to locate information on a subject due to her ID being in the lost and found at Walmart. In reference to this report, the shoplifting occurred on April 23 at approximately 2 p.m. hours. AP stated she reviewed video footage of the subject checking out via self-checkout on April 23. Asset Protection stated the subject did not scan a pair of shoes valued at $25.98, tomatoes valued at $1.01, and an avocado valued at 60 cents. The total value of the shoplifted items is reported to be $27.59. The subject placed these items into the shopping bags, paid for other items she scanned, exited past the last point of sale at approximately 2:30 p.m., and left the area in a lime green SUV. Case forwarded to CID.
  • Deputy Jonathan Kilbourn responded to Cora Mae Drive in reference to a citizen calling in stating a subject had stolen her phone. She advised the two hung out for most of the day and when they returned home, he brought up a conversation about her being friends with other men. She advised the subject got up to leave the residence and took her phone in the process. At this time, she advised she wanted to give the subject an opportunity to return the phone without pursuing charges.

SUNday, APRIL 26

  • Deputy Kory Smith responded to Preston Circle in reference to a theft that occurred sometime over the weekend. The reporting party stated an unknown subject had taken a total of 24 cans of wood stain from the back of the restaurant over the weekend. She advised the cans were last seen on Friday, April 24th. While speaking with her, she advised there were no security cameras or video footage of the incident and valued the stain at approximately $500. She requested this report be taken for informational purposes.
  • Deputy Dylan Buckhalt conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Spring Creek Highway and Jack Crum Road for unlawful speed. Contact was made with the driver, and the smell of marijuana was detected emanating from the vehicle. The driver advised she did not possess a medical marijuana card and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. The search produced 11 grams of a green leafy substance in addition to two smoking devices. The paraphernalia and leafy substance were seized for destruction and she was issued a warning for the traffic violation.

MONday, APRIL 27

  • A citizen called the Sheriff’s Office advising that an unknown male was caught on her camera breaking into her shed at approximately 1:30 this morning. She also advised that the shed was completely ransacked to the point she was unsure of what, if anything, was missing. Dep. Aimee Hoagland made contact with the complainant and took the report.
  • A citizen called in reporting that a Walmart delivery driver had damaged her gate. Dep. Ian Kilbourn took the report for this case.
  • Multiple callers notified the Sheriff’s Office of a vehicle swerving excessively and going off the road multiple times on Crawfordville Hwy. Lt. Anthony Paul conducted a stop by Publix on Crawfordville Hwy. The driver had initially stopped but then pulled off again prompting Lt. Paul to ask for backup. The driver pulled over again at the Circle K where additional units arrived. Florida Highway Patrol was contacted to assist with a breath test. Coastal responded to tow the vehicle and the driver was placed under arrest and transported to the county jail without incident.

TUESday, APRIL 28

  • A citizen reported that he allowed an employee to use his credit card for business purposes only. He discovered the employee had misused the card for personal gain. A total of approximately $25,000 was charged against his account, however the reporting party did not want to pursue charges and signed a non-prosecution.
  • A citizen reported that she responded to an ad via YouTube reference to debt consolidation. She was to send approximately $500 a month for a year and help pay off her debt of $20,000. After making her first payment of $533.67 she realized she had been scammed. Case forwarded to CID.
  • Deputy Ian Kilbourn responded to Purify Bay Road in reference to a found firearm. Contact was made with the reporting party who advised he was walking his dog in the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge at Otter Lake Road, when he located a loaded Stoeger P350 12 gauge shotgun in the bushes near the walk trail. He advised he took possession of the firearm and transported it back to his residence, later contacting Law Enforcement to report his findings. The firearm was seized at this time for safe keeping.

APRIL 29

  • Deputy Arturo Cordoba conducted a traffic stop where the driver admitted to knowing his license was suspended and was currently trying to reinstate it. Due to the driver’s admission, he was provided an Notice To Appear.
  • Deputy Todd Kent responded to Mathers Farm Road in reference to Verizon accounts being unknowingly opened. The reporting party stated he received a Verizon bill for $2,668.50 in reference to two cell phone numbers that he does not possess. He stated he has not sustained a financial loss. He stated he contacted Verizon and Verizon requested a report number to resolve the matter.
  • Deputy Dylan Buckhalt responded to Walmart in reference to a suspicious person complaint. Contact was made with an unidentified male on scene. Through data mining by responding deputies, the subject was identified. An active trespass warning was located for the subject at the above location. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Wakulla County Jail without further incident.

THURSday, APRIL 30

  • Deputy Joshua Parker conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Emily Lane and Wakulla Springs Road due to faulty equipment. During the stop it was discovered the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license. This information was discovered when he produced his identification card along with providing his name and date of birth to dispatch. Due to this, he was placed under arrest and transported to the county jail without further incident.
  • Deputy Lexi Kreitlow responded to Walmart in reference to a theft complaint. Contact was made with Asset Protection and a female who failed to scan multiple items in the self-checkout aisle. She was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Wakulla County Jail. She was also issued a Trespass Warning for the location.

FRiday, MAY 1

  • A citizen discovered three unauthorized charges against his bank account. The charges were for $1,081.57 via Amazon. He did not make the purchases nor did he authorize the transactions. This report was written for bank purposes only.
