Shell Point man arrested armed with guns after making threats

A 48-year-old Shell Point man was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 16, after he allegedly made numerous threats to neighbors and was behaving erratically.
Deputies were called Saturday morning to Shell Point after neighbors of Matthew Williams heard him making threats and yelling strange things over the past several days.

The commission dissolves after passing its final report with 5 proposals

Members of the Charter Review Committee after passing their final report and voting to dissolve. They acknowledged that two of the proposals they submitted are likely to be kicked out after review by the county commission for violating state preemption.

The Wakulla County Charter Review Committee finished its work last week and passed out a final report with five proposed amendments to the county charter.
Two of those may run afoul of state preemption laws and will likely not appear on the ballot in November: one proposal was to limit RV parks to a maximum of five units per acre; another proposal, which drew the most support from citizens, was to protect certain native trees that are 12 inches or larger.

Planning board approves a change sought by water companies to reduce setback

The Wakulla County Planning Commission voted last week to recommend that the county’s regulations on wellhead protection be amended to reduce a development buffer from 300 feet to 100 feet after representatives from local water companies said the buffer would create difficulties.

The Rotary Club of Wakulla and the Wakulla Chapter of the Tallahassee Board of Realtors did a bed build on Saturday morning under the auspices of Sleep in Heavenly Peace and built 20 bunk beds for Wakulla kids who don’t have beds.

After a two-day civil trial last week, a jury returned with a verdict of no damages for a man suing Dollar General for a slip-and-fall he suffered at the store on Spring Creek Highway back in March 2021.

A man from Clermont with illegal drugs in his system crashed and rolled a car while traveling in Wakulla County back on New Year’s Day 2020. A 17-year-old girl, also from Clermont and also with drugs in her system, was killed in the rollover crash.
