Call FWC if you see an injured manatee

Hot enough for ya? August is always pretty rough.
The fishing has been good, but itโs best to go early or later. Scallops are still plentiful and the boats at St. Marks Lighthouse look like a Walmart parking lot. Waiting room only to put in or out too.
Hope it cools down because spring duck season is just around the corner. Teal and wood duck season is Sept. 19-23.
What I want to do is give a heads up for Manatees. The death toll is higher than usual. This past June in Wakulla four have been found dead and two of them were killed by boat hits. Five so far for this year in Wakulla County.
There have been 392 state wide deaths this year as of June 30 and 72 were killed by boat strikes.
Most of the others in that number were from starvation. It seem that Toxic Algal blooms that kills the seagrass manatees love most to eat.

I saw a picture the other day someone took of a Manatee out of the water eating grass on a river bank. So boaters be more careful in the water to protect them. Especially in the rivers and streams.
If you see a injured or sickly Manatee call the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 888-404-3922 and give the best info you can as to its location.
Happy hunting and fishing. Take a youngโun!
