The new career and technical school holds an open house last week

The 12 members of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Wakulla program met for an orientation and introduction at the Lodge at Wakulla Springs on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Monday, Aug. 12, started another school year, and students at Shadeville Elementary School were back in class. Superintendent of Schools Bobby Pearce said of the first day: “It was a good day. Good start.” He noted it appeared the district had unofficially increased enrollment by about 90 students. It was the first student increase since 2019. (Photo special to The Sun)

TALLAHASSEE – Recovery from Hurricane Debby will continue for weeks, but some people in the rural Big Bend were quickly back on their feet after going through a second lethal landfall in less than a year.

Local author Sabine Spencer has published a novel, “Distant Prayers,” and will hold a planned reading at the Wakulla County Public Library on Sept. 5.

The Wakulla County Christian Coalition held an awards brunch on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the senior center.

Instead of the usual Back to School breakfast for teachers and lunch for non-instructinal personnel, a Back to School picnic was held for all employees at 3Y Ranch on Friday. It was hot. It rained. And there were door prizes. Plus hot dogs and burgers. (Photos by William Snowden)
