TALLAHASSEE —Closing the book on a legal fight that drew national attention, the state and attorneys for a group of parents, educators and students reached a settlement in a battle over a 2022 law that restricts instruction about gender identity and sexual orientation in schools.

Joe Bodiford, the defense attorney for Stuart Mauney, who faces a charge of murder, filed a motion with the court to withdraw representation – saying there was a conflict between him and Mauney. Citing client confidentiality, Bodiford did not disclose the nature of the conflict, but said he could no longer represent Mauney.

The state budget includes $3.7 million for Conservation Florida to buy 224 acres at the intersection of U.S. 319 and Bloxham Cutoff, the site of a planned 16-pump gas station, car wash and convenience store located over the underground Chip’s Hole Cavern to flows to Wakulla Springs.

TALLAHASSEE —The 2024 session came to a close on time, with lawmakers approving a $117.46 billion spending plan to finalize a session that the Senate president touted as targeting “kitchen-table issues” and the House speaker said “addressed the real needs of Floridians.”
