The Wakulla County Historical Society is a treasure.
And its monthly history programs on the second Tuesday of the month is not to be missed.
So far the programs have included Robert Seidler on the history of Sopchoppy held at the Sopchoppy Gym. Seidler went back 10,000 years in the area’s history and started from there.

The Wakulla County Historical Society was recently awarded the Golden D2 Award by the Florida Public Archaeology Network for its work in documenting and preserving cemeteries in Wakulla County.

U.S. Attorney’s Office
Anthony Wayne Lanier Jr., 33, of Crawfordville, was indicted by a federal grand jury charging him with one count of attempted enticement of a minor and one count of attempted transmission of obscene material. John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced the charges today.

Wakulla High School and Riversprings Middle School recently participated in the essay contest sponsored by the Coastal Optimist Club.
The theme for this year’s contest was “How My Acts of Service Help Me Understand What My Community Means to Me.” Students were given the opportunity to write an essay of 700 to 800 words for cash prizes.

The Sopchoppy City Commission voted last week to move forward with Rick Ott Performance and Production (ROPP) to upgrade the historic Sopchoppy Theater from an occasional performance venue to a regional arts venue, conference center, and community gathering space.

Achievements/Reason for Nomination: Sam is always smiling and happy. He voluntarily turns in three songs each week for the “Tune Tuesday” for the school. Sam loves music and is an aspiring DJ.

Wakulla County Schools has named Derek Allen Jr. as the new Head Football Coach of the Wakulla High School War Eagles.
A Wakulla High School graduate and former student-athlete, Allen returns to his alma mater with coaching experience at both the high school and middle school levels. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Florida A&M University and is a certified Physical Education teacher.
