This year’s y 4-H Public Speaking Contest was held Tuesday, April 1, at the Wakulla Extension Office.
First Place Winner for the 4th and 5th Grade Contestants was Raelyn Prentiss on “My Favorite Vacation,” an exciting story about her family’s trip to Universal Studios in Orlando and Second Place Winner was Evelynn Rummel on “Softball,” a story about her favorite sport.

TALLAHASSEE — Just over the halfway point in the 60-day legislative session, House and Senate budget committees advanced fiscal plans that diverged by $4 billion on policy issues ranging from tax cuts to environmental spending.
“We’ll figure it out,” Senate President Ben Albritton, R-Wauchula, calmly assured reporters on Thursday.
Gov. Ron DeSantis, however, took a more aggressive stance against the House this week.

Businessman Ronald Fred Crum is in the midst of a disagreement with the county over Division Street in Panacea.
Division Street currently dead ends at Clark Drive, but an old plat shows Division Street continuing onto a parcel that Crum bought in 2019 and wants to develop.

On Major League Baseball’s opening day – Thursday, March 27 – pitcher Brad Lord was in the bullpen for the Washington Nationals.
He is the first Wakulla baseball player to make it to a big league roster.

It may be the same trail, but hikers have a distinctive experience each time they visit the Cathedral of Palms trail in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.
“There’s something different every time,” said 71-year-old Craig Musgrove of Woodville. “You look up into the sky and the sabal palms almost touch the stars. It’s a place where you reflect on your life.”

The Rural Economic Development Initiative held its quarterly meeting at Wakulla Environmental Institute on Friday, March 28.
The meeting included updates from numerous organizations – including from J. Alex Kelly, secretary of Florida Commerce – on rural initiatives.
