The Wakulla County Public Library hosted a Dr. Seuss themed Spring Open House and Community Partner Fair on Saturday, April 18.
Children enjoyed crafts, story time, face painting, interactive games such as Ring the Gack, The Green Eggs and Ham Race and Hop on Pop Scotch and Story Time. Guests also had opportunities to explore the library, meet the staff and sign up for a library card while enjoying grilled hot dogs, chips and a drink.

Gulf Specimen Marine Lab held its 3rd annual Mermaid and Mimosas fundraiser on Sunday, April 19th to raise funds for the aquarium and to support the Sea Turtle Hospital expansion.
GSML is a non-profit marine research and education organization and public aquarium in Panacea.
Senior citizens travel in buses to Tallahassee where Commission for Transportation Disadvantaged rejects bids

Dozens of seniors from the Wakulla Senior Center loaded up on buses last week and traveled to Tallahassee to appear at the meeting of the state Commission for Transportation Disadvantaged – urging them to reject a recommendation that Big Bend Transit replace Wakulla Transportation in providing transportation services.

The Wakulla County Commission has set a special meeting for Wednesday, April 15 at 2 p.m. to consider a resolution to declare a local state of emergency due to drought conditions and implement a county-wide burn ban.
The meeting will be held in the commission meeting room.
Republican Gubernatorial candidate Paul Renner made his first stop to a rural county on his afforability tour, stopping by the old Wakulla County courthouse on Monday, April 13, for a roundtable.

Wakulla High School has something to celebrate. The school’s Academic Team recently finished second in the state of Florida at the 2026 Commissioner’s Academic Challenge, competing against teams from school districts across the entire state.
It is the latest chapter in a proud tradition — the Wakulla Academic Team was founded by the Coastal Optimists Club more than 40 years ago, and has competed in all 39 editions of the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge since the tournament began in 1986.
Jeffrey Duggar, who served prison time after death of child, is charged with damaging a church

Jeffrey Duggar, once a popular teacher at Wakulla High School who was later imprisoned for aggravated child abuse after a 15-month-old he took in was killed, was arrested in February for breaking out windows at Zion Hill Church.
Duggar was arrested on Feb. 23 after sheriff’s deputies were called about a man breaking out windows at the church.

Each day, she comes to school ready to learn, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a genuine love for learning. On Thursday, April 2th, the Wakulla Coastal Optimist Club held their annual Oratorical Contest. The topic for the speech was: “The Moment I Realized I Belonged: My Definition of Community.”
The contest is open to students from 7th through 12th grade.
