Joy-Filled Journeys hosted its annual Joy-Filled Easter event on Thursday, March 26, at the Wakulla Springs Lodge.
The event is aimed at giving special needs kids a fun time, and activities included decorating cookies, Easter crafts, photos with the Easter Bunny, face painting and prize-filled golden eggs with free meal vouchers from Zaxby’s and Jimmy John’s restaurants.

With 10 adoptions and five more pending, the Wakulla County Animal Control had a successful Spring Fling Adoption event on Saturday, March 28, at the Wakulla County Animal Adoption Center.
Dogs and cats found their furever homes free of charge and the first 100 pets of Wakulla residents received free microchipping services sponsored by Tallahassee Big Dog Rescue.

After 35 years of operating the county transportation service, the Wakulla Senior Citizens Center appears to be about to hand it over to Big Bend Transit.
And it is not doing so willingly.

While former county commissioner Mike Kemp had been on the trial docket for March when the case was under Wakulla Circuit Judge Layne Smith, the case has been under review by Circuit Judge Ron Flury, who was assigned the case after Judge Smith removed himself.
At a hearing on March 12 via Zoom, Judge Flury got an update on the case from Crawfordville attorney David Kemp (no relation to Mike Kemp) that transcripts of depositions had been ordered and a likely Motion to Dismiss would be drafted.

On Friday, Wakulla County held a push-in ceremony at the Trice Lane station for Fire-Rescue’s new ladder truck. Among those in attendance, above, were county commissioners Fred Nichols, Quincee Messersmith, Valerie Russell, Josh Lawhon and Ralph Thomas, who were joined by Miss Wakulla Abbigail Lawhon and Tiny Miss Lynley Bryan and Little Miss Avyn Bryan.

Wakulla High School Theatre took 27 students to Tampa this week for the Annual Florida Thespian Competition.
At this event students compete in various categories from performance to technical events. In addition to competing, students get to attend workshops with Broadway professionals and attend main stage performances on some of Tampa’s finest stages.

Wakulla County Administrator David Edwards said the county would review the offer by the school board to give the county the Wakulla Education Center property in Shadeville.
Edwards told commissioners at their March 16 meeting that the county needs to do due diligence on the offer – determine what shape the old school buildings are in, what it would cost to maintain the facility, and other issues. Edwards said the county might need to re-negotiate the school board’s offer.

Achievements/Reason for Nomination: Riley Gwin is a wonderful student and a pleasure to have in class. Riley comes to class each day ready to learn and always works hard to complete all assignments. Riley consistently stays on task and takes pride in doing quality work. In addition to being a responsible student, Riley is also very kind and helpful to others. Riley is always willing to assist classmates and shows respect to both peers and teachers. Riley’s positive attitude and strong work ethic help make his classroom a great place to learn.
