As we prepared to host an open house last week, I looked over at the conference table where a lot of food was laid out – too much food, it seemed to me at the time.
I was wrong.
A couple of hours later, all that food was gone.
Thanks to all the people who came out on Thursday evening for an Open House/Chamber After Hours event. It was an opportunity for us to say thanks to so many people in the community who have supported the newspaper over these four years.
There was a good crowd, good food and conversation.

Caden Gruebel, Emily Zak selected to speak on podcasting

Two Wakulla County 4-H members, Caden Gruebel and Emily Zak, have earned a prestigious opportunity that places them on a national stage. This March, the pair will travel to Washington, D.C. to present at the Ignite by 4-H Conference, a gathering that brings together thousands of teens, educators, and youth development professionals from across the country. Their session will focus on a topic they know well and have spent months mastering: the art and impact of podcast production.

The Wakulla Sun celebrates 4th anniversary

Join us for a celebration on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the newspaper from 5:30 to 7: 30 p.m.

Four years ago, Feb. 22, 2022, the first issue of The Wakulla Sun hit the streets. (That issue was dated Feb. 24, but still…)
Join us on Thursday, Feb. 19, as we celebrate that milestone at our office from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
In conjunction with the Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce and its After Hours Networking events, the newspaper will host the event with lots of food and drink, and socializing and fun.
The Sun office is located at 12 Arran Road in Crawfordville – on the courthouse square. It’s the building with the awnings on the northside of the courthouse.

A busy weekend on tap: Black History, Mardi Gras and Mudbugs

It’s another of those weekends in Wakulla where you can’t complain that nothing’s happening.

  • African American History Festival kicks off on Friday night with the Arthur Andrews Memorial Scholarship Gala at the community center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and will not be available at the door.
  • On Saturday, the African American History Festival kicks off with a parade at 10 a.m. followed by entertainment and vendors in Hudson Park.
  • Mardi Gras, a fundraiser for Friends of the Wakulla County Public Library, will be held at the community center from 6 to 9 p.m. The event features dinner, live jazz and a cash bar. Tickets are $60.
  • Mudbugs & Music, a crawfish cookoff to benefit Keep Wakulla County Beautiful and Big Bend Maritime Center, will be held at Woolley Park beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $20.
    And on Sunday:
  • African-American Read-In Chain will be held at Palaver Tree Theater, 59 Shadeville Road, beginning at 2 p.m.
